I had a similar thing happen a few years ago with my "C". It turned out the be a cast aluminum sling oiler gear on the PTO shaft that had broken and a piece had lodged in the transmission gears. We just took out the pieces and the rest of the gear and it was fine. My mechanic buddy said that gear was only there to lube if the tractor was standing (not moving) for a long time like a belt driven thresher power unit or something and was not needed if you were doing regular tractor stuff that involved ground travel and the transmission turning. Anyway, it was really easy to remove the top of the transmission and get at it. We also cleaned out the tranny case with hot kerosene and when we were done the original paint was still on the inside of the transmission and the gears were just beautiful pieces of machining. Hope your problem is as easy.
