Kelly, Just redid my starter on my ol 966. Basicly it is an overgrown Chevy starter. Contact your local IH dealer for a solenoid. I got one priced from them @ a cheaper price than the local auto parts store. $36.00 for one to fit my tractors starter. I will bet that is the problem with yours. While you are in there check the front and back bushings. If they look sloppy loose, Replace! Wash it up with solvent or just plain ol Gasoline. (Be Careful) A little small amt of white lithiun grease on each new bushing,(1/2 a pea size) put it back together. Test it on your 12v. fast charger and you are good to go. Hope this helps! Good Luck, John A.
