Bart - here's a couple suggestions... 1 - Peek under the regulator cover. If there's only 2 relays inside it will be a 6 volt unit. If you find 3 relays, the regulator can be either 6 or 12 volt. 2 - If you have a variable voltage DC power supply, remove the regulator cover then do this: Connect one power supply lead (doesn't matter which one...) to the GEN terminal and ground the other on the regulator base. Now watch the cutout relay (it's the one whose contacts are held OPEN by spring pressure) while you slowly increase the power supply voltage starting at 0 volts. If the relay contacts close at about 7 volts you have a 6 volt regulator. And if it closes around 14 volts, the regulator is for 12 volts. 3 - Don't have a variable DC supply? Then feed 12 volts from a car battery to the GEN and regulator frame as above. If the cutout relay closes it's a 6 volt regulator; if the cutout doesn't close it's 12 volt.
