Go to your local farm store and pick up the I&T Service Manual for the 656. They cost a little over $20, and it will describe the timing process in detail. There is a cover on the side of the clutch housing held on by two 1/4" bolts, the timing marks are on the flywheel, and you can use a prybar to turn the engine over by the flywheel ring gear. Don't try this without the manual, you need to know exactly how many degrees before or after TDC the engine needs to be, and you need to remove a cover from the side of the pump and line up two marks.
