Justin, I really hate to be a nay-sayer and certainly am not trying to argue with you, but you cannot install a camshaft 180 degrees out of time. It just simply cannot be done. It is an absolute impossibility. You can install it out of time, yes (the marks not aligning), but if both of the alignment marks are correct, then the camshaft will always be in time with the crank. Think about it. The cam, along with the distributor, rotates at exactly 1/2 that of crankshaft speed...this means that it will always be right, but only every other rotation will be on the compression stroke; the other rotation will be on the exhaust stroke (Basic 4 cycle 101). Now, the distributor can be plugged in anywhere against that cam drive gear; therefore, if we are out of time and the camshaft alignment marks match with the crankshaft alignment marks, then the problem is with the distributor timing. The distributor may be 180 degrees out of time (or more/or less) to the proper stroke. See what I mean? 180 degrees is just the other stroke, is all. The distributor has to be properly timed to the camshaft as well as to the proper stroke. Allan

All these conditions can be signals that your unit is in need of a tune up. Ok, so what is involved in a tune up? You say, swap plugs and file the points....now tha
