Steering is definitely a major engineering weaknesses of the 300U, but it usually shows up in the spindles or gearbox - it's likely you'll be able to find a replacement for your broken knuckle fairly easily (I think). I wouldn't try welding your broken piece - liable to go bust on you at the worst possible time and put you in the ditch, or worse. I've had pretty good luck with getting salvage parts from J.P. Tractor Salvage, 573/783-7055. Not particularly cheap, but they generally have what's needed in pretty good condition. There are a lot of other salvage dealers around if JP doesn't have it, repost for a list if necessary. Good luck!
