undertook overhauling our primary tractor a 656 gas. took some time and a lot of questions, but it's together now and sounds real good. 5860 original hours, not bad huh? i half wish i could have had a "practice" tractor first, but so far it seems that i didn't mess it up :) for the first timer i wouldnt recommend anything physically larger than a 656, since it almost is too big for readily available and affordable automotive type lifting equipment. (i swear i heard the 1250 lb. engine stand groaning in pain) also if you have parts such as a head laying around, make sure to seal them off so the critters can't pack corn into the crevices! the only potential problem i see is that the crank case still has a condensation problem--there is a small amound of white film on the stick and coating the filler neck. maybe i have a hairline somewhere? outside temp was 30ish F, and tractor came out of a 50+F shed avoiding the temptation to work it hard.. -karl
