'40 H brake replacement questions.

i am trying to get the old (refering to my IH manual for proper terms) brake bands out of my brake housings. left side is out. the brake band connection pins slid right out. the right side is stuck. the connection pins won't move. QUESTION: what is the proper way to remove the brake bands from the housing? can the "brake band lever" be removed? (it is the rod with the "woodruff key"). thoughts?
