Red's advice (drop the pan and clean it out) is right on. My Super H had been well-maintained and ran nice when I got it. But I dropped the pan anyway and discovered a 3/4" layer of pasty gray gunk the consistancy of glazing compound in the bottom of the pan, and also obstructing the oil pump inlet screen. I figure dropping the pan to clean it out was time well spent.
