Eric, Just like you and everybody else, I've had that same problem with my H -- pull the starter to get it free when it locked up. Last time I pulled the starter, I tore it down - cleaned and lubed the Bendix gears and the bushings, replaced the brushes at a buck or two each. Then I stuck 00 gauge welding cable on it from batt to switch, switch to starter, and batt ground to ground on stater mount bolt, plus put in a killer Optima 6V battery. So far (a year or so later), I'm amazed. Sounds like it's turning over super fast -- at least as fast as the 12V on the JD lawn tractor with the Kawasaki engine. Of course, if your problem is in the ring gear like Bob says, the results are going to vary. What's more, if I were to run 30W or 40W oil in it and try it this winter -- I doubt I'd get that fast turnover. So consider that as well -- and good luck in cheaply finding the major cause of the problem.

"Run in the house and get me a...."as I open th
