You only have to split the tractor in front of the transmission to remove the drive shaft. You take wires rods and all that stuff loose at that joint, support the front part (solidly!! I used a support I made out of 6x6 timbers bolted to the holes on the clutch housing). Then you will need something to hold the rear part. When you split just in front of the transmission, the back part is nearly balanced, so it does not take anything real heavy, but you need something that will let your roll the wheels and transmission back. I used a shop lift(engine lift). Once you have it all supported, take out the four bolts at the joint. I suggest replacing with longer bolts until you get the joint loose. Pry the joint apart, roll the rear part back and the drive shaft will come out of the clutch, etc. Make sure the clutch remains engaged, or you will not be able to get things back together. Also there are two dowell pins in the joint in addition to the bolts. Make sure those are not lost and are put back. Now you can take the flex joint bolts loose and take off the drive shaft. There are rubber washers with metal holders on the flex joint bolts. The bolts are tapered shoulder bolts and can be difficult to break loose and get out. Hope this helps. Good Luck!!
