I have detergent in all of mine, I do tend to use SAE 30 rather than multigrade, not sure it matters, except perhaps in very cold weather. The dirt is compressed in the bottom of the cup by centrifugal force, foaming shouldn't matter in this case. I believe detergent foams only when hot, it doesn't get that hot in the air cleaner, so as long as it's oil---.
