This happened to my neighbor just recently. Small diesel Deutz tractor with bale spear on rear was in shed and the battery was dead. Neighbor drives his prized Chevy pickup nearby to jump start the tractor. He can't get to tractor with jumper cables so he gets his nearly new John Deere and hooks it to back of the Deutz to drag it from the shed. As he drags the tractor out (in gear) it cranks and pivots hard right and the bale spear pierces the truck door and exits behind the drivers seat. The chain is still connected so the neighbor jerks the Deutz with the J D and it now pivots back to the left and comes after the J D. The bale spear now pierces the rear tire on the J D. Fortunately, the neighbor stays on the J D, gives it throttle and circles a nearby tree thus incapacitating the Deutz thus adverting any personal injury. Lesson...Never pull a diesel in gear unless you want an accident. It will crank!
