Gadget, there are probably a half dozen tractors (560s, 656s, 706s) around here that have combine engines instaled in them over the years (an old IH mechanic who is retired has done most of them). If I remember right, you must use the front cover off of the tractor engine(combine engines don't have the ears to mount the front cover into the frame rails), the carburetor off of a tractor(combine carb air inlet is towards the back of the engine, tractors are to the front), I think the combine engine also had a hydraulic pump mounted on the engine that must be removed. Most engines sought after from the combines were 403s (263 cu. in. gas), 503s & 715s(both had 301 cu. in. gas engines). The best way to tell if its a combine engine? Pull the head & much to your disappointment, you will find that a combine engine never had sleeves so when OH time comes around, you will have to bore the block.
