The only thing I can offer, and it is somewhat speculative, is that it may be easier to bias the rearward weight on a JD more easily than on an IH before exceeding your pulling class weight. JD's are inherently butt-heavy. Just look at where the mass is when looking at a JD from a side view. Aren't the JD's rear wheel centers heavier than an IH's? Years ago, Dad had both a Farmall H and JD 60. Our driveway had a propensity to ice over badly in the winter in one particular spot. The H was helpless on this ice; the 60 didn't even sneeze when negotiating this patch. We attributed the traction difference to the 60's weight being more to the rear. I'm not too sure about jumping on the flywheel effect so readily. Don't forget that the Farmall has one more power impulse per engine revolution than the JD to keeps things spinning.
