Start with the engine will it start right up is there white smoke a long time, that will point that there is a compression problem, valves or piston rings. Is the engine not greasy, leaking gaskets or oilseals. Than test the clutch is there enough play in the pedal, test the brakes do they work ok. Than the sheet metal.
