Don't try to take out the flange that holds the seal. This is more than a flange. It is the bearing cage and holder for the pinion gear and shaft. You cannot take it out unless you go inside the transmission and remove the axle out of the bull gear so you can drop down the bull gear to get clearance for removing the pinion cage. If you try to force the bearing cage out, without removing the bull gear first, you will just break something. The bull gear runs in a slot in the pinion cage, preventing removal unless the bull gear is removed first.
