I put D-89Ds in my MD because that's what the book calls for, and it runs great. HOWEVER, I just got my PD-40 running, and it has W-18 standard plugs in it for gas start -- that's what it's manual calls for, and it starts just as easy as my MD. It would be interesting to put D-18s or some other standard plug in an otherwise good running MD or WD-6 and see if it makes any difference in the starting.
