When did it start running like this? Before you started changing things? Sounds like maybe the plug wires aren't on in correct order. Do you have a good strong spark? Maybe a weak coil ? Also check for cracks around where the wires bolt on to the coil. How about corrosion down in the coil(spark) wire terminal? How about the point setting? If I remember correctly, the point setting is something like .013 for mag. or .020 for distributor. I seem to remember reading a post where the fellow had set the points to the wrong value. What kinda plug wires do you have? Carbon Fiber or copper wire? I've seen the carbon fiber cause trouble on non-electronic ignition systems. Have you looked for hairline cracks in your dist. cap? Also check the rotor button to make sure there isn't a crack there that is letting the voltage arc to the metal distributor shaft underneath. I was thinking......if its flooding because of a bad float needle seat, it looks like if you were to shut the fuel cock off, when enough gas was used up to prevent the flooding condition and before it totally used up all the gas in the bowl, that the engine would straighten up and run right for a little while until it actually ran out of gas. Just a few thoughts to consider.....not sure it will help any....let us know what you find. Gary

Oil Bath Air Filters - by Chris Pratt. Some of us grew up thinking that an air filter was a paper thing that allowed air to pass while trapping dirt particles of a particles of a certain size. What a surprise to open up your first old tractor's air filter case and find a can that appears to be filled with the scrap metal swept from around a machine shop metal lathe. To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?"). On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
