Marvin: You asking the $64 question. What to do about the constant problem of corrosion in electrical circuits since Mr Edison. Any two metals that are different with electrical current will react to produce corrosion.. Copper wire & steel, tin etc.. Keeping things dry and as clean as possible go a long ways..Try Radio Shack for some of the latest spray cans of cleaner\sealer.. Maybe even auto parts stores.. Baking soda & water will help clean parts from battery acid.. Sometimes I smear a lite coat of grease over the ends of cables before attaching.. Collects dirt but it helps seal out oxygen.. Corrosion is probably half the reason many hide needed repairs and go to 12volt systems. Get as clean as possible and keep dry and spray on a sealer.. Also another good reason to keep it in a barn\garage.. Good luck getting it all cleaned up.. Just thought that sometimes cables that are damaged midway have hidden corrosion which reduces its ability to carry full current load.. sorta a fake out since its looks good with a coat of paint on it.. Well worth doing this repair in the long run.. harvey
