Take a 12 volt test light, ground one end and touch the other end to the dist. side of the coil. " should have a + sign on it " When cranking the engine, the light should blind on and off as the points open & close. If the lights blinks the primary ign system is ok. If the light stays on the points are not finding a ground. If the light doesn't light something is grounded in the dist. housing. Also with the ign switch on, the battery side of the coil " - side" should always light the light. Hope this helps Mike
