The gas cap replacement program was a result of a lawsuit filed years ago. The old caps would leak and possibably cause a fire. When you drive over rough ground with a full tank they will leak all over the place. I-H either agreeed or was ordered to replace the old caps upon cust. request. I've taken three of them in in just the last 5 yrs and they were replaced with the new one. I just gave my name and adress and the model tractor. Had to turn over the old cap to them though. The new ones worked good for me although they were black and I had to paint them to match.
