Chad, My little Bro is a service mgr. at a Chevy truck dealership that sell lotsa trucks...he says he hasn't heard anything about it, and that for the most part the Duramx engines have been trouble free.
Speaking from the driving experience (we have a GMC Kodiak with Cat power for our big truck, a GMC 4500 with a 21' roll back, and Duramax, a GMC 3500 with Duramax that we pull a 14000 lb goose neck with, and an F350 Powerstroke) the Duramax is "the man"! I am not saying this as a GM fan, cause I am not real brand conscious, but that engine is GREAT. It's quiet, it ACCELERATES NOW like a gas engine even loaded and going up a hill. It acts more like a gas engine accelerating.
The Powerstroke does seem to get a little better mileage under load, but that nay not be fair because it's a standard and the Duramax's are both backed by the auto tran. But when the Ford is hooked to the goose with a load, and ya start up the hills loaded on a highway, ya just pull in behind the tractor trailers...with the Duramax ya hit the passing lane! Again, I like all brands so not trying to start a war here. As far as Dodge, I really have no experience with the Cummins in trucks (I sell Case Industrial, and ya can't beat 'em in Hoes, Dozers and skids) but a parts house dealer that we do business with opened his parts book to show me something when we were shaopping the last truck: Tie rod end for a new GM:about 7 or 8 bucks, Ford: about 11 bucks...Dodge: about 28 bucks...then he priced brake parts!!!! We bought the GMC! Pete
