The 706 is not close to a 806 by any means!! I remember when we had both and was pulling a 16' and 12' krause oneways hooked together with the 806 and we decided one day to put the 706 on in place of the 806. the 806 had been pullling the oneways in Hi 2nd with the TA back and if I remember correctly it was 5&7/8 MPH it was doing a good job and pulling it easily but leavin a good trail of smoke behind it. We put the 706 on the onewys and pulled them in Hi 1st with the TA back and it WOULD NOT pull it worth a darn never would rap up over about 2000 RPM and finally we put it in L 3rd with the TA foreward. It was OVER A GEAR SMALLER THAN THE 806. Later that fall we got another 806. The 706 was always A BIG DISAPOINTMENT AFTER THAT!! Rememberd the 806's would dyno around 97 and the 706 about 75. BIG BIG DIFFERENCE
