A circuit making battery dead

I'm bringing back a 1939-45 A with electric start, generator and a regulator put on at some point.

Problem is that when I hook up the battery, there's some sparking indicating a circuit. I can't find out where, since the mechanical switch for the starter should be the only way (lights not being connected and no wires touching metal)

Any clues?
