I agree that it would have had a generator on it from the factory. I'm sure you can find a good used or rebuilt one at a salvage yard.
If I remember right, they were Delco's and Delco must have made them by the millions, you can find similar, if not identical, generators on many makes of cars, trucks & tractors of that era.
