This may or may not be germain to your tractor but i think it is.I recently had a starter generator on a gen set burn up on me.It began with similer symptoms.If this is an A.c. delco or delco remy check the the front and rear bearings.They cost about $10.00 and are alot easier to get off the shaft if they aren't welded in place by heat and friction.No generator should get so hot that you can't hold your hand on it for as long as you like.Good Luck!
