Dennis, Salvage parts for any of the A thru 140 Farmalls should be redilly available in your part of the country as they were used extensively in the tobacco fields. Traveling through Kentucky, Virginia and N.C,, I have seen more consentration of those models than any other place. I'm sure if you ask around you'll find salvage or used transmission parts a lot cheaper than the $1,300 quoted you.
