The poser to me is why it cranks slowly with the ignition switch turned on. Proportionally, the ignition circuit should not be using that much of your battery reserves. What does your timing look like? The only thing I can imagine is that the engine fires too much before top dead center - and this might be trying to force the piston down too soon.
