I can tell you with authority that Hugh is right about this.I pulled a 5 foot disc many many days with a 1947 H in late 50's and early 60's in north Ms. If you were cutting stalks before breaking the ground, you might use 4th gear because the disc wouldn't go very deep. But after you broke it 6 or 7 inches deep, and dirt was running over the disc axles, it was 3rd gear at best. Steve Norwood, Texarkana.
