No you can't tap straight into the pump. You need to trouble shoot your hydratouch system. Inside the hydraulic reservoir under the seat is where the filter/screen is. That could be pluged to the point that the pump is being starved for fluid. The hydraulic regulator will be the rear inside valve body. This regulates priority to your steering system. This could be where the problem is. Get a hydraulic pressure guage and plumb it to fit one of your hydratouch valves and check the pressure. Do the same thing for your hydraulic input at your power steering unit. After making all these check you still don't have any hydraulic pressure I would have to say your pump is shot.
