Ken, I got the gearbox and cone at a consignment sale for $15!!! Someone had mounted it like a post hole digger on a boom. It looks like he intended to just set it down on the wood withoug giving thought to the wood spinning. :-( I'm told the gear box is from an auger, but I don't know. It is a 2:1 speed reduction, which at my age is a bonus. I haven't split any elm at all but I think it would do it... just slower because of the stringy part. George Willer
