I agree with Ludwig. Find out why you have problems with the 6 volt system. Changing the battery out to a 12 volt system only masks the problems that will come back and bite you later with the 12 volt system.
When you switch to 12 volts you can add a resistor in series with the output of generator to reduce the current being sent to the battery. This is how the generator works for the cub and A 6 volts systems. On the dash of these tractors there is a switch that allows you to select LOW or HIGH charge. The LOW selection just adds in a resistor to teh charging circuit, whereas the HIGH setting shorts out the resistor. You could do the same or get the shop that makes changes to you generator to add a 12 v regulator. I would go the regulator route, that way you do not need to monitor the amp gauge and remember to change the switch from High to Low or low to high.
