Bryce, the previous posts have some good suggestions to follow. In addition, check the splines on the shaft. If they are worn considerably, there is the possibility that this condition will also contribute to the brake locking. Remove the burrs with a file or die grinder. What I finally did on my SMTA to remedy this was to machine about .020 off of the brake housing edge that mates to the tractor. The metal mating surfaces for the brake discs on the housing and tractor wear from years of use. As a consequence, the linkage is adjusted to compensate and even with new discs installed, the brake assembly travels what I will call "over center" and contributes to the locking up scenario. To reduce this excess travel of the assembly, machining off .020 will accomplish this. Keep us posted. Tom
