farmall (a) voltage regulator question

I have an (a) with a new generator and a new regulator also. The charging system was working good and then it stopped charging. I checked everthing out and found that if I moved the contact on the left side of the regulator ( after taking the cover off) That it would again begin to show a charge on the ammeter. after doing this it would charge on its own for about 30 seconds or so, and then quit again. the regulator probably ony has 10 hours of use on it, can it be adjusted or should I just get another new one ? thanks in advance for your help !
