The smoking could be caused by the cylinder head valve seats also. Rebuild work on the head may cost from 150 to 200 bucks at the machine shop. Rebuild kits for the block run about $800(cam, crank and rod bearings with a piston and sleeve kit). I would pull the head and oil pan and check out your cylinders and bearing clearances. Sounds like you may need to clean up the clutch and bearings. New throw-out and pilot bearings aren't too expensive. You could probably clean up what you have and make it work okay. T/A is rebuilds run about $400 for the unit.. get a I&T shop manual and make sure you T/A clutch is adjusted properly with the main clutch linkage. You'll have to split the tractor to replace the TA. Sounds like you'll have a nice 300 when you're done.
