Cub not running right

My Cub has run poorly the last three times I used it. The first two times it took about a half hour of running before the 4th cylinder would start to hit and add its power. The last time, the 4th cylinder never seemed to come in, and after about 2 hours, it went bang pop bang out the exhaust (sounded like gunshots) and I shut it down. The next day it sounded all muffed and out of sorts when I tried to start it. I pushed it back into the barn where it will sit until ???? any ideas on how to diagnose??
