JEM don't think it will get better. That system has ball check valves to hold the load after you lift it. If it lifts ok the pump gears and pressure relief must be ok but the ball valves are not holding. You would have to take the unit out from the gas tank and pull the cover off and but new ball and seat in . Not a bad job.
