Guy over the hill in the next valley who dabbles in buying and selling tractors has a decaled "Super H" sitting in his yard for sale. So, I stop and look. (Now, I have a '53 Super H so I know the difference between an H and Super H.) First thing I notice from 50 feet is that it doesn't have disc brakes. Pull out my little trusty and battered serial number refernce guide that I always carry in the truck, check the serial number and guess what?? It's a '48 H. He comes out and proceeds to extoll the virtues of this "Super H" over an ordinary H. I told him I wasn't interested; didn't even get to price. He belligierently asked why? I said it wasn't a Super H and showed him the serial number guide. He said the guide was probably wrong and told me to leave. This behaviaor told me a couple of things: 1) either he got stuck and bought it thinking it was a Super H or 2) he was dishonestly trying to sell it as a Super H. My philosophy is keep them correct and original as possible. Yes, you can do whatever you want with your tractor, but would you tear the grille off a Ford F-150 and replace it with a grille from a Chevy Silverado? (Maybe that's a bad analogy--because some people probably would do that!!)

It was an Allis-Chalmers tractor dealership,
