I'm a fairly mechanically inclined person but I have absolutely no experience with tractors. I've been researching tractors for a while and decided to buy something in the 50 to 70hp range with a loader and cab. Firstly, I want something to help build a house with and later for use in the Sugar bush, gathering firewood, landscaping, snowblowing etc. My budget is 10-15. I'd been looking mostly at John Deere because a had this notion that they were the best and that I'd have less trouble finding parts (because I'm a neophite with tractors I thought I'd stick to the name brands). A few people mentioned to me that the other brands ie. Ford, International, and Massy-Fergusson were just as good. So, I began looking at these brands and noticed that I could buy a 4wd with a loader and cab within my price range. I found this 584 with loader, cab and 4wd. The owner's asking 15,000. He says that he has the reciepts from an engine rebuild 100 hours ago and that the tractor is immaculate, (everything works-save for the parking brake). From the prices that I've seen online, even with it's condition, it seems a couple thousand high. Could a 24 year old tractor of this type be worth this?
