Were these shims under the bearings on your H? If so, they were there to try to take up about 0.002 of excess clearance. This is a common repair that can actually cause some problems to the connecting rods. It would be best to have the connecting rods inspected by a machine shop, as the rod bearing holding surfaces could now be out of round. (I have been there before) If this was done on the main bearins, the block would need to be checked, and possibly line bored. (been there before also)
