Super M Guidance

Fellas,
I purchased a 53 SM to restore and eventually make a little hay with when I retire. I am replacing all seals and bearings in the transmision and axle housing. If you were doing this would you also tear the motor down and remove the 50 plus years of non detergent sludge? The motor does not smoke. But I would hate to run into a problem once she's pretty! Thanks for your input.
