The tractor has never started for me w/o glow plugs or ether. The guy I bought the tractor from 15 years ago was starting it with ether. It cost me close to $200 to get the glow plugs working but I don't like to use ether. The owners manual says always start from cold with the glow plugs but I have seen some people say on the net they can start w/o the glow plugs after a fresh rebuild.
