Hi Tim, my brother hooks up his 454 to a single acting cylinder on his NH haybine this way and lets it blow the relief valve when he lowers it. The older IHs like 300U etc had a control on the control valve that would allow selection of S or D. I don't like the squealing noise but it dose not bother my brother and he has been using it this way for several years and no harm has been done to his 454. My 2 cents JB
