756 Diesel is Hard Starting

The tractor has over 6,000 hours but doesn't use any oil. Over the last couple years, you have to engage the starter longer and longer. When its cold you better plug-in the block heater or forgetit.We pull the fuel shut off cable out about half way until it tries to lite off. My question is there anything I can do other than an overhaul? Thanks.
