The "battery ignition package" IH sold as an upgrade--which dealers sold by the truckloads (I remember it being $27.50 in the 1960's)--made it almost impossible to determine which H's and M's came out with magneto ignition and which ones didn't. The exception to that being...the tractors sold without starter, generator, and lights HAD to have mag ignition. Not sure what was the first year that the IH distributor was available--maybe Guy Fay or Hugh MacKay can answer that--but I've rarely seen an H or M after about '41 that still had a mag, unless it also lacked starter and lights.
