mice again

there was a post about mice living in tractors. i have this problem. the nest doesnt seem to be overwhelming or used in a very long time. its not stuck on the ring gear, is it important for me to remove this, and do i really have to split my super C? can i just clean it out in some incredibly time consuming way? (i dont have splitting stands and no one i know does)
