Nothing realy wrong with mags but most found distribitor cheaper and easier to maintain. I have several mags that my Dad pulled off and replaced with distribitor. When tractor was acting up and he needed to be in field he did not have time to tinker with magneto so he just went by salvage yard picked up distribitor and coil and was running in hour or so. When tractor went down for any reason during planting or harvest season it had to fixed fast. Have seen Dad overhaul M transmission in field and be back running in less than day.
