1. If the condition of the starter switch is questionable, a replacement can be found easily and reasonably. Try Case/NH or NAPA.

2. ALL starters are overloaded and will overheat if cranked too long, regardless of voltage. Most 12 volt conversions retain the 6 volt starter with no ill effects. The biggest danger to the starter is breaking the nose from the Bendix engaging too violently. Overheating is less of a problem, since they don't have to crank as long.

3. You probably have the only replacement carburetor available new. It was original equipment on the later models. It should work fine if it is clean and properly adjusted.
