You can't ever have too many books. But you can put Guy Fay's and Ken Updike's data books together and get a good snapshot of what IH did. For more detail, you need more books. Guy Fay's book covers up to about 1958 and is rather detailed as to specs. Ken Updikes is covers 1939-1985, and has less detail, but lists I believe all US made tractors, engine size, HP and weight. Guy's book lists more dimensions, both have years of production and serial numbers. Guy's is in the bookstores, you have to contact Ken directly for his.
